How to Unblur a Photo on iPhone

Four practical ways to sharpen a blurry iPhone photo, with honest limits and app-free options.

Short answer: Start with the Photos app's definition and sharpness controls. Use an AI enhancer only when motion blur or missed focus makes the original unusable.

Before you use an AI enhancer

A sharpening tool cannot recover detail the camera never captured. AI apps invent plausible texture, which can help a casual photo but may alter faces, text, or small objects.

Method 1: Use the built-in Photos app

  1. Open the photo and tap Edit.
  2. Increase Definition gradually.
  3. Add a smaller amount of Sharpness.
  4. Check faces and fine edges at full size before saving.

Method 2: Try an AI photo enhancer

AI enhancement works best on small portraits and lightly blurred images. Keep the original, disable beauty filters, and compare eyes, teeth, jewelry, and background text closely.

What we recommend

For normal photos, edit conservatively in Photos or Photomator. For a small, low-resolution portrait, Remini can create a more usable result, but its added facial detail should not be treated as historically accurate.
