Best starting point: Use your phone's built-in cleanup feature for small distractions. A specialist editor is more reliable when the object crosses a face or detailed pattern.

Choose the smallest possible edit

Object removal works by rebuilding the covered background. It performs well on sky, grass, walls, and water, but struggles with hands, lettering, fences, and repeated patterns.

A reliable cleanup workflow

  1. Duplicate the original photo.
  2. Zoom in and select slightly inside the object's edge.
  3. Remove large objects in two or three smaller passes.
  4. Inspect repeated textures and warped straight lines.

When the edit is not believable

Crop the image, darken the distraction, or use a desktop editor with manual repair tools. A less ambitious edit often looks more natural than a fully generated background.
