Restore Old Photos With AI
A careful workflow for repairing scratches, improving faces, and preserving the original scan.
Preservation rule: Keep the highest-resolution untouched scan. AI restoration should always be a separate interpretation, never the only remaining copy.
Scan the original carefully
Use a flatbed scanner when possible. Scan at 600 dpi, turn off automatic corrections, and save a lossless TIFF or PNG master before editing.
Restore in the right order
- Correct the crop and rotation.
- Repair large tears and dust marks.
- Balance faded tones.
- Apply face enhancement last and at low strength.
Watch for invented faces
Face restoration models may change eye shape, teeth, hairlines, and age. Compare every result to the scan and keep the gentlest version that improves readability.
