Representative browser test
On August 6, 2026, we processed a rights-cleared 1280 x 800 WebP source (151.4 KB) in Chrome 151 on macOS.
- WebP at 82% starting quality with no target: 148.8 KB, 2% smaller.
- WebP with the 100 KB target: 98.9 KB, 35% smaller.
- WebP with the 500 KB and 1 MB targets: 148.7 KB; the original was already below both selected targets.
- JPEG at 82% starting quality with no target: 187.9 KB, 24% larger.
These results describe one retained test image, not a general compression promise. Output depends on the source, format, dimensions, encoder, and quality setting.
How to use this tool

- Select No target size or an approximate 100KB, 500KB, or 1MB target, then choose JPEG or WebP output and a starting quality.
- Compress the image, inspect the reported dimensions and file size, and download the new copy only when the tradeoff suits the destination.
Important limits
Target sizes are approximate. A detailed image can remain above a selected target even at the minimum quality; resizing its pixel dimensions first is the safer fallback. JPEG and WebP compression is lossy, and very large images may exceed browser memory or canvas limits.
Frequently asked questions
Can this make every image exactly 100KB?
No. The 100KB, 500KB, and 1MB options are approximate targets. If the encoder cannot reach the selected target at the minimum quality, the result explains that it is still above the selected value.
Should I resize or compress first?
If the destination requires smaller pixel dimensions, resize first and then compress the resized copy. If the dimensions are already correct, compression alone may be enough.
Can I compress a PNG here?
This compressor accepts JPEG and WebP. Use the Image Converter when a PNG must become JPEG or WebP, and remember that JPEG cannot preserve transparency.
