For JPEG output, this tool fills the canvas white before encoding; in the retained transparency test, the result had no alpha. Keep transparent pixels
Choose PNG or WebP and inspect the result on the background where it will be used. Both formats retained transparent pixels in the August 20 test described below.
Make a JPEG copy
Use JPEG when the destination needs it, but check the white background and file size. In the retained tests, JPEG was not always smaller than the source PNG.
Make a still image from GIF
GIF input is accepted only for a static conversion. The tool does not preserve animation or let you choose a frame.
Representative browser test
On August 20, 2026, we ran eight retained exports in a Chromium browser on macOS using first-party geometric fixtures and the 90% setting for JPEG and WebP.
- A 640 x 420 opaque PNG (14.2 KB) became a 29.7 KB JPEG and an 11.0 KB WebP at the same dimensions.
- A 480 x 320 transparent PNG (14.2 KB) became a 22.0 KB transparent PNG, a 14.7 KB JPEG with a white background, and a 12.2 KB transparent WebP.
- An 800 x 533 JPEG (46.4 KB) became a 15.6 KB WebP at the same dimensions.
- A three-frame 320 x 240 GIF became one static 5.7 KB PNG; animation was not retained.
These values describe the retained fixtures and this browser encoder, not a universal size or visual-quality promise. The WebP version of the high-contrast transparent fixture also showed edge artifacts on inspection, so compare the actual output before keeping it.

Important limits
Outputs are limited to 8,000 pixels per side and 16 million pixels in total. GIF animation is flattened to the browser-decoded frame present when conversion runs. The JPEG/WebP quality percentage is an encoder request, not a measured visual-quality score. PNG has no quality setting and can be larger than the source. If the browser returns a different format than requested, the tool stops instead of giving that file the wrong extension.
